THE REVELATIONS OF JESUS(5) - THE PRIORITY OF LIFE

One of the more popular statements of the master were the "I must" statements. There was the sermon on the mountain, the "I am" statements and then the parables. But no other statements reveal Jesus life's purpose and priority like the I must statement. Some of the I must statements are as revealed here:

  • Luke 2:49 - I must be about my father's business

‘And he said unto them, how is it that ye sought me?  wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

  • John 10:16 - I must bring other sheep into the fold

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold:  them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one-fold, and one shepherd.

  • Luke 4:43 - I must preach the gospel in other places

‘And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also:  for therefore am I sent

  • Luke 13:33-34 - I must walk, I must die in Jerusalem

‘Nevertheless, I must walk to day, and tomorrow, and the day following:  for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.   34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

  • John 9:4 - I must work the work of him that sent me

‘I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day:  the night cometh, when no man can work

The word "I must" reveals the priority of the master! What is priority? Priority is simply primary focus, putting first things first, first among all others, it is placing worth and value over a thing above other thing! And from the I must statement of Jesus we see where the master's priority lies: fulfilling God's plan and purpose for his life! So, he declared in John 9:4 ' I must work the works of him that sent me'!  Three things from this statement that we can learn.

  • we are sent by someone
  • He has a work, an assignment he sent us to do
  • that assignment or work must become our life's occupation and primary priority!

The master's purpose became his life priority and so your purpose must become your priority! For as the father has sent him so he has sent us (John 20:21).  In other words, our assignment in life is to fulfil God's assignment for us!

A wasted life is a product of misplaced priorities! When your priorities are correct, you preserve and protect your life. Correct priority protects your time. When you set the right priorities, then you use your time for intentional purposes; your time is not abused or wasted. Correct priority protects your energy. Correct priority protects your talents and gifts. Correct priority protects your decisions. Correct priority protects your discipline. Correct priority simplifies your life.

Define your priority or misplace your destiny, like Jesus I must work the works of him that sent me for the time cometh when no man can work! What about you?
