“Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16
“Often” means it was His habit. He did it in places where He was all by Himself. I believe this is absolutely essential. We need to spend time alone with God every day. Jesus returned again and again to a lonely place. Find that place where you can get alone with God, where you can be isolated and pray aloud and let God speak to you.
Isolation provides the perfect scenery for the flow of revelation. In Proverbs 18:1 the bible says, ' Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.' So when we deliberately set aside ourselves for communion with God in prayer we fellowship with His wisdom that brings solutions to our lives.
In isolation, great spiritual encounters have been experienced! It was while in isolation that the story of Jacob changed. Up until then, he was a supplanter, without purpose, power or prosperity. Prophetically of the two nations inside Rebekah, Jacob was destined to be the greatest, a man through whom the nation Israel would be raised, but at this point, he was nothing but a wanderer. That was until he was left alone with God!
"And Jacob was left ALONE, and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, what is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face and my life is preserved." Genesis 32:24-28, 30 KJV
One encounter with God is worth a lifetime of struggles!
This singular encounter reset the destiny of Jacob that was been derailed! In isolation, Jacob experienced God face to face! In isolation, he experienced unction for transformation! Jacob suddenly had power with God and prevailed among men!
Another man who benefited from a change of scenery was Moses. The deliverer had become a wanted murderer! He had lost track of destiny and was a political fugitive until the burning bush came into the scene!
"Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, here am I." Exodus 3:1-4 KJV
When God saw that Moses turned to see, then God spoke! When He knew he had his full attention He spoke the revelations that will change his life forever.
When we turn our attention away from the distractions of the world we reset our heart for revelations from the word! When we turn to God, he will turn to us in instructions and directions that will change the course of our lives forever.
The principle of Isolation is what makes people to constantly seek the mountain experience, somewhere they can go and be free of the world's distraction and be alone with God! It's why people seek spiritual retreat always because it provides the spiritual scenery where we are able to 'intermeddle' with all spiritual wisdom!
We can create that place in our house, 'a war room' where we can pray and be in isolation with the father, free from the physical distractions of the world that entangles the mind! In such atmosphere, we can hear 'thus saith the Lord' ushering us into the next phase of our lives or delivering the answers to long-standing questions. Amen.
