PREPARED AND PROTECTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

In the last installment on this series on how the Holy Spirit protects we see that He offers us guidance on where to go and where to be per time. Safety is where the presence of the Spirit is per time. Been guided and guarded by the Holy Spirit has to do with on the spot leadership and direction as we navigate this world. This next installment is about how he protects us by preparing is for the future. However, this form of guidance sees more into the future.

In Proverbs 22:3 the bible says, ‘a prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself:  but the simple pass on, and are punished’

If we can see what is ahead then we can prepare for what is ahead. If we can see what is ahead then we can forestall what is ahead. Been able to see ahead is an advantage, and this advantage is conferred on us by the Holy Spirit for that is his principal ministry!

John 16:12-14 tells us, ‘12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.   13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:  for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:  and he will show you things to come.

The Holy Spirit is the revelator of the future! When Jesus was born he knew what Herod will do in the future so he asked Joseph and Mary to take refuge in Egypt!

The Holy Spirit peers into the future and prepares us for the future.

Look at the classic case of prophet Agabus and Paul here. In Act 21:10 the bible talks about how this prophet came to warn Paul about what will happen at Jerusalem.

‘And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed and came unto Caesarea:  and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven;  and abode with him.   9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.   10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.   11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’

If you read earlier in verse 4 you will see a similar message was given by some of the disciples that Paul should not go, though Agabus in his own case gave no explicit instruction by the Holy Spirit but only reveal what will happen to Paul should he sail to Jerusalem. Paul knowing this was still made up in his mind to go, but at least this revelation prepared him for what was ahead.

The direction of this nature by the Holy Spirit either prepare us for what is ahead or prevent us from what is ahead. There are times a journey has been planned long ahead and then the Holy Spirit comes and reveals his intent, ‘don’t go there or go this way or go two days before time’. Every time He has said that He has always been spot on. ‘A wise man foreseeth evil and hideth himself’; the evil you can foresee you can forestall! From here onward you will never lack His guidance. No more walking into evil, chaos, and destruction again. All we need di is opened to the Holy Spirit to peer into the future for us and reveal His plans. Amen.

The guidance of the Holy Spirit is only for Sons of God according to Romans 8:14, so if you have not accepted Jesus into your life please say this prayer with me: ‘“Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, that Jesus died for me, that you raised him from the dead. Father, please forgive me. I accept Jesus today as my Lord and my Saviour. Amen.”
