Faith connects us with God's virtue and God's virtue adds value to our lives
The Acts of the Apostles isn't a book about the teachings of the Apostles but about their doings. One of the things notable about the early church was the manifestation of signs and wonders and miracles in their daily lives. This we have seen in past studies of this book. What we look at today is the spiritual factor behind their normal wondrous life!
When the man at the beautiful gate was healed Peter in his message gave us an insight into what provoked this miraculous work. He said, ' and his name through FAITH in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the FAITH which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.'(Acts 3:16)
Twice he mentioned faith so that no one will be in doubt, because the just shall live by his faith! The quality of our Christian journey will never be better than the measure of our faith!
Further down in Acts 6:8 the Bible says that Stephen "full of faith" did great signs and wonders among the people! Faith again was the key that unlocks the miraculous!
Acts 14:9-10 record the story of a man whom Paul perceived to have faith and then he declared the man free and so it was - he got up and walk, literally fulfilling that scripture that says that by 'faith ye stand'.
‘The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, 10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked’
Whatever has kept you down for long will lose its hold on you right now and by faith, you shall stand again! (Romans 5:2, Romans 11:20)
The early church walked more into the realm of faith than in the realm of sense, no wonder they experienced God’s unusual power! Faith connects us to God's virtue and God's virtue adds values to our lives. The early churches were valued adding centers in their days no wonder the multitude flocked in!
Paul in Romans 10:17 tell us how faith comes, and it’s a popular scripture we all know, ‘17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God’. Paul had experienced this first hand while he was in Asia. In the space of two years and on a daily basis Paul was teaching the word of God.
Acts 19:8-10 tell us, ‘And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. 9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. 10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks’
Faith connects us to God's virtue and God's virtue adds values to our lives
In the first place, Paul preached they were disputing the word, but in the second place they were receiving the word! At the school of one called Tyrannus, the word was preached daily, it was received and then spread like wildfire all over Asia in the space of two years insomuch that everyone in Asia heard the word of the Lord! And faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word Of God. Since the hearing and believing was in place what happened in verse 11 was inevitable.
‘11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them’ (Acts 19:11-12).
There was a word explosion that gave birth to a special faith which consequently birthed special miracles. This was the story of the early church!
The believers of old were value-adding believers! Stephen was said to be full of faith, and not just that, but of power! Because faith is what unlocks God's power! And God's power provokes signs and wonders! (Acts6:8). Phillip operated in that same realm and took a whole city for Jesus (Acts 8) all by faith! And in Acts 9, Phillip enjoyed supernatural transportation on the wings of the Spirit to go preach the gospel in the desert to the Ethiopian Eunuch. It was the same experience with Paul in Acts 14 and Acts 19; on the platform of faith, the virtues of God were released to bless humanity.
By faith, through faith, our lives can express God's virtue and value! Amen!
