Having the facts is not the same as knowing the truth! Really in today's world, we tend to confuse facts, what is true and truth as the same thing but they are different! Fact is that at this moment I am writing this POWERTALK to you and a few hours down the line, the fact is, you will also as the reader will be reading this! These are all facts, facts that are subject to change! These are all true but they are not the truth! Why? Fact changes, but the truth remains the same!
Fact is after writing POWERTALK I will move on to do other things in the line of my assignment as you too will do! But whether I write, sing, pray or play, one truth about me remains unchanged: the truth that I am Peter Adeshina Babalola! And this goes for you the readers as well! If you are a man when you start reading this, you will still be a man after reading this! Whatever you do you are a still a man! That is the truth and the truth unlike facts, do not change with circumstances and time, it remains eternal!
Facts changes with circumstances, times and places but the truth remains eternal. Facts are changing, but truths remain the same!
Maybe this is why Pontius Pilate desperately wanted to know 'what is the truth?'(John 18:38). It was a good question he asked Jesus but of which he never got an answer to because if Pontius Pilate was present 4 chapters earlier in the book of John he would have heard the master proclaimed, "I am the way the truth and the life...!". The truth is a person! It remains fixed and unchanged! That person is called the word of God in John 1:1. Jesus is the word and the word is truth and the truth remains forever!
It's why Jesus said in the book of Matthew 5:18 that 'heaven and earth may pass away, but a jot of my word (the truth) will not go (not changed, remain fixed) away unfulfilled'!
"Sanctify them by thy truth, thy word is truth"(John 17:17). 'What is the truth?’ the word is the truth! And it is on this unchanging truth we must build our lives! It is on this words that remains steadfast that we must build our lives! This is why the psalmist described the word as "settled" - meaning fixed and unchanged (Psalm 119:89). ‘89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven’
What you will read this morning on the pages of newspapers and through the social media and whatever news outlet in the world are FACTS that will change with circumstances and time! The only thing worth hearing and building our lives upon is the TRUTH, the WORD, JESUS himself! The facts of this world are ever-changing, but the truths of the word remain eternal! Accept today JESUS the way, the truth which is your access to the life of God. Amen.
If you’ll like to receive Jesus into your life please pray this prayer: “Father I acknowledge that I am a sinner that Jesus died for me that you raised him from the dead. Father, please forgive me. I accept Jesus today as my Lord and my Saviour. Amen.”
