THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT: WALK IN LOVE

Without love, there is no light and without light, there is no progress. The scripture says that he that is in love dwells in God(1 John 4:12) and if God is light according to 1 John 1:5 then it means when you are in love you are in God and consequently in his light! This must have prompted John to say in 1 John 3:14 that anyone that is not in love with the brethren dwells in death! The word death here from the original root word also translates as "thickest darkness".

‘14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.   He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.   15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer:  and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Been in love equates dwelling in light and where there is light there is life and progress. Overall where there is no love no progress can be made, for wherever the brethren dwell together in love and unity it is there God commands life and blessings forevermore(Psalm 133:1-3)! Hallelujah!

‘1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!   2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard:  that went down to the skirts of his garments;  3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion:  for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore’

When those of us who are already in the light allows the evil work of hatred and bitterness to crop up in our heart then the glorious light in our heart is turned to 'grievous' darkness!

Now Jesus made a powerful statement in Matthew 6:23 that I have always wondered what it means. In the latter part of that scripture says, "If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Combine this with the scripture in 1 John 3:14 and you will get the understanding that it is the absence of love in the heart of a believer and the presence of hatred bitterness and malice that darkens the light in our heart, and how grieveous that darkness can be!

When those of us who are already in the light allows the evil work of hatred and bitterness to crop up in our heart then the glorious light in our heart is turned to 'grievous' darkness!

This is why with all men we must pursue love at all cost. The apostle of love, John, said this is the ultimate proof of our love towards God: loving the brethren and it is the only way for our lights to maintain its glory and its power! How many lights have been 'dimmed and darken' due to hatred, bitterness, and malice?

One of the greatest commandments of love that many believers fail over and again is that of forgiveness! This is why one of the greatest proofs of love is the ability to forgive! Sadly many fail this test! Jesus knew how hard this was so he gave us a rule on how much to forgive in Matthew 18:21: 490 times! Only when a man exhausts this much number of opportunities that he may not be forgiven again!

When you live in love you abide in God. John had that presence of God so much that he was fried in hot oil but will not die! He was banished to the Isle of Patmos where he received and downloaded the book of Revelation! He was in love, in light, and in God's life, so death could not take him!

My friend, you can't hold on to that man in your heart in unforgiveness and miss out on God's presence! That's too much a price to pay for petty unforgiveness. May God's love pour afresh over your heart as you let go of every malice, hatred, bitterness, and unforgiveness in your heart.
