DEEPER WALK: A Spirit life Devotional(An Act of Faith)

"But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory" (1 Corinthians 2:7).

The mystery of speaking in tongues or praying in tongues is one of the greatest mysteries that God has ordained for our glory! It is one of the greatest mysteries of the kingdom of which the devil heavily contest even in the minds of believers who are tongue speaking as it were. Tongue speaking to such believers have become a religious rigmarole or rituals that we engage in as believers!

There are reasons why this heavenly gift is heavily contested and I can list a lot here. First, the gift of tongues is the base gift and the foundational gift for entering into life in the supernatural. The first proof of been baptized in the Holy Spirit is the gift of speaking in tongues and remember this gift is among the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. And I dare say that it's the gift that ushers us into the manifestation of other gifts in our lives. I will talk on this in subsequent posts in the future but just know for now that life in the supernatural begins with praying in tongues. Also, the gift of the tongue is what grants us a private audience with God. 1 Corinthians 14:2 tells us that we cannot pray amiss when we pray like this - in tongues!

"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries"

This is God's direct line of communication, it has no barrier or restriction, when you get on this lane you are on an an an express plane with God. Hence the devil would want to plant doubts in our hearts on the use of the tongue! And it starts right from when you are baptized in the Spirit and you are urged to speak in tongues. This is where people begin to wonder whether they are speaking 'correct tongues'. Believers begin to wonder if they are not speaking 'rubbish'. No operation of the Spirit is more tasking on our faith than the operations of tongues! When we operate faith for healing, we see physical healing, but in operating our faith for receiving the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues, there is always that doubt of the mind, 'is what I am speaking truly tongues that connects me directly to God, am i not conjuring up a rubbish language?'

I have heard a pastor rebuked his team of leaders not to pray too much in tongues, that they should also pray in their understanding so they could understand what they are praying also. On the surface, it sounds good, but much deeper it demonstrates a lack of faith, a lack of faith that questions whether the Spirit can accurately pray through us to get through to God! So he advises praying in your understanding so you can be sure you are really praying the right prayer points.

Paul said something on this in 1 Corinthians 14:14-15,

"For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also"

The unfruitfulness of the mind will always cast doubt, but Paul says irrespective of this, I will pray in my spirit and I will pray in my understanding also. Look at it despite the doubt of the mind, Paul still put praying in tongues ahead of praying in our understanding! Praying in the spirit should be our main spiritual course in prayer, every other thing should be a prayer addendum! Our prayer agenda should feature heavily praying in tongues!

For those who are not baptized in the Holy Spirit are also having the same problem, the problem of faith, for the promise of the Spirit is received by faith. Galatians 3:14 tells us,

"That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith"

We receive the promise of the Spirit through faith! Unlike the Apostles who were first introduced to the Spirit, they saw wind and fire but we would not see that because the Holy Spirit is already here! In Acts 2, he invaded the earth for the first time but right here and now the Holy Spirit is already here and all we need to do is receive by faith the ever-present Spirit of God into our hearts. But like the church in Acts 2:4, we would still have to open our mouth in faith to speak in tongues.

Acts. 2:4 says, "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance"

Look at this scripture closely, they began to speak with other tongues. It was they who started it and then the Spirit gave utterance! In Psalm 81:10 David prophetically spoke about our responsibility in receiving the gift of the Spirit:

"I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it"

The responsibility is spelled out clearly, open your mouth wide and then God will fill it up! Opening our mouth wide to pray in tongues always without ceasing is an act of faith and the more we do it the more we build up our faith. This is the reason why Jude 20 said,

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost

Praying in the Holy Ghost is an act of faith and the more we engage in this spiritual act the more we build up our faith! Therefore activate your faith today by praying more in the Spirit and the more you pray in the Spirit the more your faith is activated and updated.
