DEEPER WALK: A Spirit Life Devotional(Two sure access to God)

Hebrews 4:16 is one of my favorite scripture in the word,

"Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need".

Here the word encourages us to approach God's throne with the boldness of heart in anticipation of receiving His help and as I search through scriptures I discovered there are two ways in which we gain direct access to God or provoke divine intervention from Him. One of them is worship. Worship provides direct access to the throne of grace. At the instance of praise, we have seen the direct intervention of God. Examples abound in scriptures. I will use the popular one, Paul and Silas. Acts 16:25-27 tells us what they did.

"And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed".

Through the power of praise heaven's intervention was provoked. Paul and Silas prayed and then ended the section with loud praises that provoked and move God to come into the scene. The Bible says there was an earthquake and if you check through scriptures, each time God appears the earth always quakes!

Isaiah 29:6 tells us, "Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire"

Nahum 1:5 talks of how the earthquakes before the presence of God.

Revelations 11:19 tells us that when the temple of God was opened there was a great earthquake

So in Acts 16:25 what happened was what David wrote about in Psalm 22:3,

"But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel".

God came down to inhabits the praises of Paul and Silas, and the earthquakes at His presence, the prison doors were opened and everyone's band was loosened! What an intervention from heaven!

This is the power of praise in giving us direct access to God.

And then in 1 Corinthians 14:2 tells us another direct access to God,

'For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries".

This is the power of praying in the Spirit and in tongues, all spiritual protocols are bypassed and we gain direct access to God! Hallelujah! No wonder the devil will always fight and cast doubts in our hearts on this spiritual practice. Nothing divides the church throughout history more than the subject of praying or speaking in tongues.

And then in verse 15 of this 1 Corinthians 14, Paul combines these two spiritual forces - WORSHIP and PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT, to create what I called our TWO SURE ACCESS TO GOD.

"What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also"

Worshipping in the Spirit is our two sure access to God, here we combine the power of worship and praise and we communicate it to God in an unknown tongue ministering directly to the Lord to provoke his intervention on the earth! When we begin to sing in the Spirit we begin to worship God with a new song!

The Scriptures for long have talked about the power of worshipping God with a new song. The scripture has long prophesied about how God's people will worship him with a new song! A new song is not a new composition or arrangement of musical notes and harmony, a new song is waxing lyrical the praises of God in an unknown tongue!

Psalm 40:3 tells us about new songs that comes directly from the Lord,

"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord"

God is the original composer and director each time we worship in the Spirit. Singing in the Spirit is the highest level of worship. Mary talked of how her spirit rejoices in the Lord and that was where the Magnificat was born.

Luke 1:47-49
"And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed"

This was worship in the spirit which connects directly to the heart of God, still, it was a preview of what will happen in Acts 10:46 where for the first time it was recorded men and women worshiping God in the spirit and in tongues.

"And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter"

They spoke in tongues and worshipped God in the Spirit! They had their own Magnificat which is spiritual songs sang in the Spirit and with tongues. Paul talked about this in Ephesians 5:19

"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord". He said the same thing in Colossians 3:16.

Spiritual songs are songs composed with unusual tongues and sang directly from our hearts to God! I want to believe this was what the prophets and teachers in Acts 13 were doing when it was described that they were ministering to the Lord, they were having their own Magnificat, worshipping God in the Spirit and then they got direct access to Him and God spoke expressly his mind on the ministry of Paul and from that moment on Paul exploded on the pages of scriptures and on the pages of history as he took the gentiles world by storm with the gospel of the Lord Jesus!

We have two sure access to God and it is by worshipping God in our spirit and in truth. Jesus himself prophesied that time when people will no longer worship in physical places and physical things but with the Spirit. He said in John 4:23-24

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth"

True worship is spiritual worship, spiritual worship is with spiritual songs and spiritual songs are sang with unknown tongues directly from our heart unto the Lord. And the time for that is now. Amen.
