A deeper walk with God will bring us into the deeper waters of his power and glory! That was what David longed for in Psalm 63:1-2 when he cried out loud and clear:
"O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary"
In a land where things were dry and barren David longed for the power of God. He longed for a deeper fellowship with God and a deeper experience of the power of God.
Just like David and much more, Ezekiel the prophet in Ezekiel 47 gave a prophetic demonstration of what happens when we take a deeper walk with God, we get into the deeper waters of his power and glory. We read in Ezekiel 47.1-9. It is a long read.
"Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. Afterward, he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters rose, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou saw this? Then he brought me and caused me to return to the brink of the river. Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and everything shall live whither the river cometh"
For every thousand cubits measured the deeper Ezekiel went into the waters of God's power! And this is always the pattern when we leave our issues behind and focus on our walk with God, we grow in spiritual depths, measure, stature and power with God. And then when our spiritual stature increases our present problems diminish. This was the experience with Ezekiel, as soon as he got to the highest level of God's water and power God now took him back to where he began his journey.
"And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou saw this? Then he brought me and caused me to return to the brink of the river. Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other" Ezekiel 47:6-7.
When the prophet was returned the things that were not there were now there: trees were growing on every side! A deeper walk into the power of God brings growth in every area of our lives. The barren land has started yielding and growing! And then God told him this is how it will be, wherever you get to with these waters of God there will be healing and restoration and life! Hallelujah!
And the spiritual truth here is glaring, the deeper we walk with God the lighter the burdens of life become
Matthew 11:28-30, in the words of Jesus, gave a summary of what we just saw in Ezekiel 47.
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
As we walk deeper with God we take on His burdens and our burdens become lighter. This is the demand for a lighter burden, we take on his yoke and we will find rest our souls!
It doesn't matter what the challenges are our goal must be to seek a deeper walk with God into the deeper waters of His power. Now, when we go on this adventure we will discover that our once barren land becomes healed, our barren lands begin to yield!
Now, Jesus came in John 7:37-39 and expounded what this river of life means, it is the outflow of God's Spirit out of our lives and being.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
This is the river of life, the Spirit of God flowing out of our lives without measure. And one way we go deeper into that river of life that is flowing out of us is by praying in the Holy Ghost.
Jude 20 tells us, "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost". In order words, Jude was saying grow deeper and bigger in your faith walk with God by praying in the Holy Spirit."
Someone once asked me can we pray too much in tongues? And my answer is no! We can never go too deep with God. That's why I can't write enough on this subject, that is why no one can!
Why? 1 Corinthians 14:2 tells us, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries"
At tongues level, it is deep calling unto deep. And in the realm of deep communications, there is a release of deep and great revelations!
Paul said I pray in tongues more than ye all. Could this be the foundation of the depths that he encountered? 1 Corinthians 2, Ephesians 3 were epistles that talked about the depths of revelation that Paul encountered.
His gospel was unique. Talk about the knowledge that has helped the body of Christ today:
*new creation realities
*the authority of the believer
*types and shadows of the Old Testament as revealed in the new testament
*operation of spiritual gifts
*spiritual warfare and weapons etc
All these were the gospel of Paul! He had a deeper walk with God, he walked into deeper waters and one of the reasons for that was because he probably prayed in tongues more than they all!
The truth is, other than Jude 20, almost every reference to the operation of tongues, it's significance and importance was as revealed in the Pauline epistles! We would not have known of this powerful operation of the Spirit but for Paul's gospel. We must, therefore, reckon this as one of Paul's spiritual mainstay!
This is why I will write more on this topic because I believe the church of Jesus Christ has come to the verge of the release of God's Spirit and power. We are at the junction when we move into deeper waters of God's power as we engage in deep tongues praising and glorifying God. 'My church has come to that point in time when it shall be distinguished from all others by the demonstration of my power and spirit. Intellect rules but yet again will I confound the wisdom of the world by the operation of my Spirit' saith the Lord.
